Tourmaline Sunangel, Ecuador

Sunangels are small, feisty hummingbirds with a lot of attitude, who rarely stay still. This male's seemingly angry stare points his iridescent feathers towards my lens. The many colors are enhanced greatly by on-camera fill flash. The head angle foreshortens the bill, but provides a good example of hummingbirds' "bug eyes," an evolved defense against predators.
