Shining Sunbeams are unique among hummingbirds because their iridescence is on their lower back and rump. It is hard to see and photograph unless they spread their wings.
Sunbeams are attractive high altitude hummingbirds, seen frequently above treeline, over 10,000 feet in the Andes.
