This is a quadrant of the large emission nebula cataloged as IC 1396. At the upper right is a structure known as the Elephant's Trunk (although it doesn't look like one to me).
The pervasive red color arises from hydrogen alpha (Ha) emission from energetic hydrogen atoms.
