Surfing Gentoo Penguin, Falkland Islands

This Gentoo Penguin is coming ashore in high surf driven by gale force winds. They will sometimes shoot out of the waves and surf the rest of the way to shore on their large webbed feet. Hang five!

We happily stood for a couple hours in fierce offshore winds to capture behavior like this. Windproof gloves with enough desterity to operate your camera are a big help.
