Blue-throated Hummingbird
Madera Canyon, Santa Rita Mts., Arizona

The Blue-throated Hummingbird is the largest North American hummingbird. Southeast Arizona is one of the few locations in the United States where it ventures north of the Mexican border. When photographing at a location where species of different sizes visit my feeder, I've found a close-focusing zoom lens is invaluable for quickly adjusting to frame-filling shots. In addition, a lens with a rotating tripod collar lets you quickly change from horizontal to vertical (to try for those cover shots!)
